THE SASKIA VAN ESSEN SERIES
The Bank
A Crime Thriller
The series begins with The Bank, where Saskia's unlikely career as a crime investigator begins.
A computer geek who considers herself a backroom researcher, Saskia never imagined she would be accused of murder, let alone go undercover to expose some of Europe's most wanted criminals.
What begins with a small computer hack develops into a covert data-mining operation for a European law enforcement task force investigating a criminal network involved in drug trafficking and the exploitation of unaccompanied refugee minors.
As Saskia gets closer to the truth, she discovers that criminal investigations can come at a devastating cost, not only to herself but also to the people she loves.
Perfect for readers who enjoy: crime thrillers, financial crime, undercover investigations and realistic criminal investigations.
The Forest
A Mystery and Crime Thriller
In The Forest, Saskia travels from Lyon, France, to the highlands of Australia to investigate a family-owned logging company.
What begins as a financial restructuring assignment soon becomes something much more complicated. Saskia is asked to investigate whether money is being laundered through the company's accounts, but strange threats, suspicious finances and a growing list of crimes suggest that something far more sinister is happening.
As Saskia digs deeper, the danger escalates. The fate of the local logging community and the people she has come to know depends on whether she can unravel the mystery hidden in the forest.
The Forest was a finalist in the Mystery & Mayhem and Chanticleer International Book Awards.
Perfect for readers who enjoy: mystery novels, crime fiction, financial crime, suspense and dangerous investigations.
The Website
An Award-Winning Crime Thriller
The Website takes Saskia's investigation into even darker territory.
Saskia is investigating an organised crime network and a dark web site connected to the exploitation of children. During the investigation, she discovers a mysterious connection between the missing children in her database and the inhabitants of a remote island in the Antarctic called Si'Empra.
Reaching the island is only the beginning. Its inhabitants are suspicious of outsiders, the people behind the trafficking network remain one step ahead, and Saskia must uncover the identities of those responsible before more children become victims.
Blending crime thriller, mystery and fantasy, The Website brings the world of Si'Empra into Saskia's investigation.
The Website is a Publishers Weekly BookLife Prize Award Winner, Maincrest Media Award Winner, and Chanticleer International Book Award Semi-Finalist for Mystery & Mayhem.
Perfect for readers who enjoy: crime thrillers, mystery, dark web investigations, organised crime and genre-bending stories with fantasy elements.
